Our Sports Camp Mission
To grow His Kingdom and reach out to the community of
St. Albert with a relevant, reverent, timely and fun week of sports,
crafts and Christian education for elementary age children (Grades 1-6).
Description
Sports Camp is a modified Vacation Bible School
with an open assembly time of song, dance and worship, 3 different sport
classes each day (6 sports in total throughout the week), one craft
class and one Bible study class each day of the 5 day camp. The camp
uses the Lifeway theme material for the year to enhance the ambience of
the camp and provide unique music and atmosphere for each individual
year.
Campers also receive a hot meal at lunch time and
take home their sports camp t-shirts and a class photo.
Accessibility
By charging only the essential cost of the program
to the parents, Sports Camp is accessible to all strata of the St.
Albert community. Campers with special circumstances such as low income,
special needs children, social services or groups may approach the
Pastor to make special arrangements. |
Staff, Missionaries & Volunteers
Sports camp shoots for a staff to child ration of
1:3. This provides the children and the staff a very personal and warm
experience. Children are put into groups of 30 and assigned a coloured
flag for their group for the week. Each group has 2 permanent groups
leaders and 2 floating group supervisors for the entire camp. As the
children progress to the scheduled activity the Group supervisors
combine with the activities instructors resulting in a staff of 10 that yeilds the desired 1:3 ratio for the group.
Staff members are congregation members of Grace
Family Church, international missionary groups and local parent
volunteers.
Grace Family Church contributes 25 to 30% of the
volunteers, the international missionaries carry the next 60% and St.
Albert parent volunteers comprise the remaining 10 to 15%.
Volunteers and Missionaries provide their own
means, accommodations and transportation to the camp. At the end of
the week they keep their staff t-shirts and their wonderful memories and
receive an appreciation certificate, a group photo and perhaps a small
memento.
